What is a Tartan? [and other Frequently Asked Questions]

Q. What is a Tartan?
A. A series of colored stripes running the length of the cloth (warp) that is reproduced exactly in the threads across the width of the cloth (weft). The color pattern is the point of emphasis and each particular combination (sett) distinguishes the different clan, family, dress, hunting and district tartans.

Q. What kind of looms do you use?
A. Click on My Looms for more information about my looms.

Q. How long does it take you to weave an item?
A. Each item is hand woven to your specifications, therefore the amount of time depends upon the item itself, as well as the type of yarn used. Generally, it will take one to three weeks from start to finish. That includes designing, warping, weaving and finishing. However, there may be a backlog of orders. When you place your order, please let me know when you will need the finished product.

Q. How late can I order for Christmas?
A. To guarantee you receive your order by Christmas, place an order no later than October 1st.
